About Me

Hi. My name's Ben, and I'm a Landscape photographer from the wet, but beautiful, Northern Ireland.

Here's me:

I've always had an interest in photography, and have had a few small cameras, but never a proper one with a 'big' sensor. In the summer of 2020, I got my first proper DSLR - the aging Canon 450D. Paired with its standard zoom of 18-55mm, the image quality wasn't the best, but it fuelled my passion as it helped me learn to capture like a proper landscape photographer, and not just take images for the sake of it. It taught me about Depth of Field, and the importance of composition, as well as many other elements that help make a class photograph. By the end of 2020, I had received the Canon EOS R, a present from my Uncle, which was a massive upgrade, entering me into the world of full-frame. I gradually built up my collection of lenses and other accessories, until I had all that I needed to help me capture the dramatic landscapes around me. Gear, however, is not the most important factor - it's the photographer!

Speaking of Gear, here's what I use:

  • Canon EOS R
  • Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM (fav lens)
  • Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM
  • Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM
  • Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM (sharpest lens)
  • Manfrotto 190XPRO4 Tripod

Additionally, I have a 10 stop ND, circular polariser, and 3-stop medium grad filter

My style, so it is:

I've always loved taking photos, so when I got my first camera, it was the best thing ever. Starting off, it was a mixture of landscapes and street shots that interested me the most. However, over the past few years, I can confidently say it's landscapes, particularly sunrise and sunsets, that interest me the most. The odd bit of street stuff is nice too, but the landscapes are my cup of tea! I always aim to use the best lighting for my shots, but sometimes this isn't an option, so I'll try my best to capture the scene in the best way I can. Leading lines and balance are key for me, as well as quietness in chaotic scenes - isolation of a subject, now that hits the spot!
